Industry responds to Waste Levy

The Property Council has provided a submission to the Queensland Government’s Transforming Queensland’s Recycling and Waste Industry- Directions Paper, which foreshadows the introduction of the Queensland Waste Levy from 1 January 2019.

The submission outlines the property industry’s long-standing commitment to improved environmental performance and the extensive efforts already undertaken by the Property Council’s members to minimise landfill waste.

While outlining support for initiatives aimed at reducing the amount of waste to landfill, the Property Council opposed the imposition of extra costs on those who are already leading the way in reducing waste.

Early analysis indicates that the levy will add $1,400 to the cost of a new home, and circa 5% to the cost of waste disposal for a typical Brisbane office building.

Submissions
on the Directions Paper are due by 5pm, Friday, 29 June 2018.
