Industry responds to proposed Building Units and Group Titles Act transition
The Property Council has provided a submission to the QUT Property Law Review: Issues Paper – Consistency between the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997 and the Building Units and Group Titles Act 1980.
The issues paper sought industry and community response to the prospect of transitioning bodies corporate still registered under the older Act, primarily in older tourism-orientated developments, on to the new Act.
In responding to the paper, the Property Council weighed the potential benefits of shifting these older Queensland body corporate developments away from legacy legislation against the significant public and private resources that would need to be expended in this process.
Given the significant scope of the Property Law Review, which recently entered its fifth year in operation, the Property Council recommended that the Review’s resources be focused on areas with a more compelling case for reform.
