Industry responds to draft Brisbane Metro design
The Property Council has provided a submission on behalf of the industry on the Brisbane City Council’s Metro Draft Design Report.
While expressing support for the project, the Property Council has called for a wider CBD traffic management plan and outlined the importance of maintaining vehicle access to buildings along the proposed route.
The Property Council also stressed the importance of clear communication with land holders about resumptions and construction.
The highly anticipated project was first announced in early 2016 and is expected to reduce traffic, cut congestion times and improve services to suburbs. Brisbane Metro will comprise a 21-kilometre metro network that services 18 stations.
Two new high-frequency, high capacity network lines will be introduced: Eight Mile Plains Busway Station to Roma Street Station; and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital to University of Queensland Lakes busway station.
The project will allow a fleet of 60 metro vehicles, each holding a capacity of 120 people and is expected to run every 3 minutes during peak travel times.
In March 2018 the Brisbane Metro was confirmed as a ‘High Priority Project’ on the nation’s infrastructure Priority List.
