Industry Responds to Adelaide Street Vision

The Property Council has provided feedback to Brisbane City Council’s Draft Adelaide Street Vision (the Vision), a document that seeks to activate and upgrade the key CBD street.

Within its feedback, the Property Council has called for Council to develop a holistic vision for the CBD’s transport network.

To effectively improve transport corridors throughout the CBD, the Vision must consider the entire CBD street network, with its inter-linkages, hierarchies, public transport development, and predicted traffic flows, and how these will operate together.

To improve and enhance the Vision, the Property Council has also encouraged Council to introduce a greater continuity of streetscape, to create a sense of identity throughout the CBD.

Council’s dedication to tree-lined walkways and green coverage was commended within the submission, but feedback encouraged Council to consider lightweight structures that do not inhibit movement along the street. This will be especially important as pedestrian numbers on the street are expected to double by 2031.

The Vision also mentions partnering with stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes. The Property Council encourages Council to partner with asset owners too, in order to assist in the activation of the street and the delivery of positive initiatives.

The Property Council’s full submission can be downloaded below.
