Industry invited to tackle housing affordability

Landcorp invites Architects, designers, developers and builders to step-up to the challenge to design innovative and creative solutions for medium density housing in Perth’s metropolitan area.

Home ownership is fast becoming a significant challenge for Australia’s major cities with medium density developments providing the best opportunity to increase the supply of diverse and affordable housing. In response to this, Landcorp have developed the Step-up Affordable Housing design competition.

The Property Council supports the work of Landcorp in its efforts to address housing affordability through innovative design lead solutions.

“Through the report #designperth, the Property Council championed medium and high density developments to boost housing diversity and affordability,” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.

“The Property Council will continue to work alongside agencies to overcome the challenges that come with delivering medium and high density developments in existing suburbs through key reforms, like the introduction of community titles that will pave the way for greater precinct scale development bringing residential, retail and commercial together, while creating a vibrant place to live and work.”

“With effective planning and thorough public consultation, communities will embrace medium density living and the benefits it brings to local communities through increased services, boosts to local economies, improved housing affordability and the opportunities it provides to local small business owners,” Iacomella said.
