Exemptions on Height Limits for Retirement Living and Aged Care Being Explored

The Property Council and an audience in excess of 400 members welcomed Minister for Planning, Hon. Richard Wynne MP at our March Business Lunch.  Minister Wynne outlined the key aspects of the recently released Plan Melbourne Refresh, Residential Zone Reforms and Homes for Victorians package.

The Property Council welcomed the Minister’s comments regarding the effects of the new residential zone reforms, particularly the height restrictions, on the retirement living and aged care sectors.  The Property Council has been presenting examples of the impacts of the new reforms to Government, and it was pleasing to hear our concerns have been considered.

Minister Wynne indicated the Government was looking to establish a working group with a view to exempting retirement and aged care.  This would facilitate more housing choices for those who wish to downsize in their own community.  The Property Council welcomes the Government’s efforts in this area.
