Illawarra to host International Symposium for Next Generation Infrastructure
The Illawarra Chapter of the Property Council is pleased to once again be an endorsing partner of the International Symposium for Next Generation Infrastructure (ISNGI) at UOW’s SMART Infrastructure in Wollongong, 1-2 September 2016. This global community of infrastructure scholars returns to Australia after being held in Schloss Laxenburg Austria in 2014, and Washington DC in the USA in 2015.
Commencing in 2013, with the inaugural event at UOW, the objective of the symposia series is to foster an international dialogue on current issues and latest innovations in infrastructure research and policy, contributing to more resilient, sustainable and productive long-term infrastructure planning and management.
ISNGI brings together practitioners, academics and policy-makers to share new knowledge, to propose best practice principles and to mentor the next generation of experts, who will have to design, implement or manage future infrastructure systems around the world.
2016 will see the 4th event delivered in Wollongong with global INSGI partners:
- Oxford University London, UK
- University College London, UK
- Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands
- Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), USA
The event aims is to address a grand challenge “Beyond Utopia: Designing Infrastructure Systems as Collective Agents of Social Change”. This challenge is concerned with infrastructure (such as transport, energy, water, waste, telecommunications, housing and social infrastructure) and the web of interdependencies and interconnections that collectively make up the physical, economic and social systems of cities and regions. New thinking about how to manage, organize and deliver infrastructure required to improve performance, drive innovation, promote collaboration, capture lessons and deliver more successful outcomes than are currently being achieved.
