Icon inspires quarantined toddler
Property Council member Icon made headlines this month for providing some welcome relief, including toys, a hard hat and a hi-vis vest, to a toddler quarantined in the InterContinental Perth City Centre in Hay Street, Perth.
The toddler’s family, in mandatory quarantine in Perth’s CBD, found their two-year-old Epandi was captivated by the activity on the 553-561 Wellington Street worksite, which is a Stirling Capital student accommodation project being built by Icon.
The toddler’s mother wrote to Icon thanking them and their staff for providing such wonderful entertainment for a two-year-old stuck in quarantine. The company responded by sending toys and the mother’s grateful response, and photographs of her son dressed as an Icon site worker and happily using his “tools”, went viral.
Icon managing director Luke Young said the company was delighted. “We thought if we could do anything to improve their time in isolation, we would,” Mr Young said. “The world could do with a little kindness and we are all in this together.”
Mr Young said the company felt it was extremely fortunate in WA and the construction industry to maintain its business and “tremendous clients”.
The Stirling Capital project, Switch Living, is a 39-storey student accommodation tower with 433 beds across 258 units, three floors of commercial, retail and hospitality tenancies and a heritage façade restoration.
