How sensors support productivity and performance
JLL’s newest ‘smart building’ office fitout in Brisbane is trialling SenseAgent sensors – wireless technology that gives people greater real-time control over their working environment.
JLL has recently moved its Brisbane city office to the top two floors of Central Plaza at 345 Queen Street. The 1,577 sqm office space features JLL’s activity based working model, WorkSmart.
JLL Australia CEO Stephen Conry, who is based in Brisbane, says the firm has made “substantial investments” in large, modern and creative new tenancies.
“We always prefer high quality buildings in prime locations. Our people and clients value the investment,” Conry says.
The ‘SenseAgent’ sensors, developed by Queensland-based company Levaux, enables JLL to collect indoor environmental quality data indicators and occupancy trends while autonomously controlling lighting. The data collected can enhance operational and energy efficiency, while also building business intelligence.
The sensor market, driven by the Internet of Things, has grown exponentially in recent years.
According to research by Statista, the volume of data collected by smart building sensors will grow to 37.2 zetabytes in 2020, from 1.2 zetabytes in 2010.
To put this in perspective, in 2009, the entire World Wide Web was estimated to contain close to 0 exabytes – or one half zetabyte.
JLL’s Queensland Managing Director, Geoff McIntyre says the trial of intelligent wireless technology “gives our team a better controlled work environment”.
“The SenseAgent system gathers temperature, daylight, humidity, sound level, air quality and location density information that enables us to optimise the environment for our staff.”
The JLL WorkSmart model, designed in-house, combines non-traditional work practices and activity settings across multiple work locations.
“This new way of working has resulted in a much more dynamic work environment and a more creative and collaborative experience for our teams through the choice of more work spaces, including sit to stand desks, focus areas, hush or quiet rooms, collaboration areas and meeting spaces,” McIntyre adds.
JLL’s Brisbane office has been registered for a 5 Star Green Star rating.
In 2017, JLL reported its eighth consecutive year of record revenue and profit in Australia and is the largest commercial property services firm in Queensland and Australia.
