Housing Supply Expert Panel announced
The Property Council has welcomed the announcement of the inaugural members of the Queensland Government’s SEQ Housing Supply Expert Panel as the next step in addressing long-term housing supply and affordability challenges in South East Queensland.
Premier Palaszczuk announced the Government’s commitment to implement an independent panel to monitor supply and demand for housing in SEQ, when addressing the Property Council’s members at an industry event in 2017.
The expert panel will oversee the SEQ Growth Monitoring Program, an initiative proposed by the Property Council to ensure that hard data is being used to underpin regional planning decisions. If implemented correctly, the program could ensure that the ShapingSEQ Regional Plan’s targets are measured, delivered, and where required, enforced.
The panel will consist of: Julie Saunders (Chair, Knight Frank), Dr Elin Charles-Edwards (UQ), Nerida Conisbee (REA Group), Dr Michael Fotheringham (AHURI), Laurel Johnson (UQ), Sonya Keep (Common Ground Queensland), Warren Rowe (UQ), Ben Slack (Urbis) and Dr Marcus Spiller (SGS).
Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council, Chris Mountford outlined that “it is imperative that these experts have access to the most up-to-date data from local governments, State Government and industry, so they are able to provide informed and regular advice back to Government.”
