HOUSING CHOICE KEY TO RETIREMENT
Perth’s over-55s are eager to explore new options as they transition to retirement, judging by the strong interest being shown in plans for a multigenerational lifestyle village by the beach in Iluka.
The proposal by not-for-profit organisation Brightwater Care Group and boutique developer OP Properties includes Odyssey Residences at Beaumaris Beach, a $40million development that draws on east coast trends as part of extensive research and planning.
Jennifer Lawrence, Chief Executive Officer at Brightwater Care Group, described Odyssey as a “game-changer” for the over-55s.
“The response from those people who have already registered their interest indicates that they’re looking for fresh options; options that are more in tune with the way they want to live as they start thinking about retiring from work, and enjoying more time for travel and other interests,” Ms Lawrence said.
Since the registrations of interest phase opened in mid-August, over 300 individual registrations have been received. Of these, percent are from people living within three kilometres of the site.
The three-storey Odyssey development, to be operated by Brightwater Care Group, consists of 58 two-bedroom and three-bedroom lock-and-leave residences, plus a gym and a roof-top terrace.
Luke Parker, Director of OP Properties, which is project managing the development, said Odyssey was a forward-thinking project that aligned perfectly with the vision for a multigenerational village.
“From the outset, our aim has been to create a premium, vibrant and integrated village heart that local residents will be proud to call their own,” Mr Parker said.
Odyssey is an integral part of the proposed multigenerational lifestyle village, which will also include shops and cafes, and accommodation for a variety of different life stages, all just 300m from the beach.
Settlement on the land, on the corner of Burns Beach Road and Fernando Parkway, is expected in December. A development application was lodged with the City of Joondalup in August and is scheduled to be advertised for public comment next week (W/c 22 October 2018).
Brightwater Care Group and OP Properties strongly encourage anyone with an interest to submit a response during the public advertising period.
Pending approval from the Metro North-West Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP), construction could commence in the middle of next year, with the first residents moving in early in 2021.
