Housing affordability seminarAustralia’s unemployment rate is around 6 per cent”the highest it has been since the depths of the 2008 economic downturn. This has been caused in part by the closure of a number of large Australian employers. At the same time, there is also an increase in underemployment. Join us in Adelaide on Thursday 28 August 2014 as we use the latest AHURI and international research to explore the impact unemployment and underemployment has on the ability of people to pay rent or a mortgage.Mr Phil Fagan-Schmidt (Executive Director, Housing SA), Professor Sten-Ã…ke Stenberg (Stockholm University), Dr Sharon Parkinson (AHURI Research Centre”RMIT University) together with and a panel of distinguished experts including Mr John Oliver (Chief Executive Officer, HomeStart Finance) will talk about the issues and offer solutions to the problems based on their research and expertise. This important event will give your organisation the opportunity to join the discussion about the housing challenges facing Australia’s low-income population and what can be done to solve them.Convened by AHURI, this half-day session will be informed by the significant body of evidence developed by AHURI on this matter, including Dr Sharon Parkinson’s Final Report Wellbeing outcomes of low-income renters: a multilevel analysis of area effects, and Professor Iain Campbell’s Final Report The housing security consequences of underemployment. We will also give an international perspective from Professor Sten-Ã…ke Stenberg’s work into housing evictions and homelessness. The event will conclude with an audience discussion and Q&A with panel members.
