Gold Coast Light Rail stage two
The Palaszczuk Government has taken the next step in progressing stage two of the Gold Coast Light Rail, by releasing a revised version of the route as well as opening expressions of interest for a Design & Construct contractor.
GoldlinQ who operates stage one of the light rail system have approached the Government with a funding and construction proposal to complete stage two between Helensvale and Gold Coast University, in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Queensland Government has requested that GoldlinQ initiate the industry engagement and investigate the extension.
The expression of interest process for the design and construction of stage two will allow the Queensland Government to finalise a revised business case and financial submission that will then be presented to the Federal Government, with the aim of securing funding.
The new route for stage two is 7.3 kilometres with a tram journey taking about 11 minutes. Expressions of interest opened on 10 August and close on Friday 28 August 2015. For more information click here.
