Gold Coast 2020 Vision
A crowd of over 200 property professionals attended the Property Council’s final Gold Coast event for the year to hear about the 2020 Vision for the City.
Cr Tom Tate, Mayor of the City of Gold Coast told attendees the Gold Coast needs to tread its own path and not try or aim to emulate other cities and continue to capitalise on the success and exposure of the Commonwealth Games.
The Mayor provided an update on what Council has achieved over the period of time he has held office, which included an increase of students choosing to study on the Gold Coast and new initiatives being rolled out, such as the new ferry service.
Following the Mayor’s address, he was joined on stage by Rachael Hancock, Editor – Gold Coast Bulletin, and Geoff Hogg Group Executive Operations – The Star Entertainment Group for a moderated panel discussion with Matthew Schneider, Director – Urbis and Chair of the Property Council’s Gold Coast Committee.
The panel discussed a wide range of issues, with all agreeing that the future of the Gold Coast is bright but there is a need for all sectors of the economy and the community to be aligned on the key infrastructure projects that are critical to facilitate the projected growth of the City.
As part of the event, the Property Council of Australia’s Peter Trathen Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Melissa McLeish who is in her third year of her Bachelor of Business and Commerce, Majoring in Real Estate and Property Development, Accounting and Financial Planning at Griffith University.
The Scholarship was established to pay tribute to the contribution Peter Trathen made to the property industry and the Gold Coast business community. In 2000, he took the lead role in the development of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Peter was a strong advocate of education and continuing professional development. He actively encouraged young people to seek and develop careers in the property industry.
The Property Council would like to thank Mayor Tom Tate for taking the time to speak at our event and to our panellists Rachael and Geoff, along with Matthew for moderating insightful discussion.
Special thanks to RLB for sponsoring the event and for their ongoing support of the Property Council. Thanks also to Boulder Capital for their Support Sponsorship.
