Girls in Property Program
The Girls in Property program for 2019 kicked off on 23 May at Western Sydney University’s City Campus in Parramatta, with 300 girls of diverse backgrounds from 13 public girls’ schools taking part in the program. 11 of the schools participating were from the Wollongong and Greater Sydney region and two in the Hunter region.
For the first time an Illawarra school was involved in the program, with 17 students from Dapto High School taking part. The girls had the chance to tour world class developments, meet industry leaders and be involved in real life property projects with female mentors from the Illawarra property industry including Jennifer Macquarie (Fountaindale Group), Holly Howell (GPT) and Polin Daawood (Frasers).
The objective of the Girls in Property program is to raise awareness of female participation in the industry, increase exposure to the various careers available to women in the property industry and to help high school-aged girls make informed choices about a career in property in the future.
Now in its third year, Girls in Property brings together the biggest property companies to work closely with schools, universities and the NSW Government to experience world class property developments and work on real life property projects.
Sessions took place across three days on 23, 27 May and 20 June. Some of the activities the students were involved in included:
- Learning about women leaders in property, their careers and university education
- Developing projects with industry members in which they presented to their schools
- A range of industry site tours in across Sydney CBD, with a keynote address from City of Sydney Lord Mayor, Clover Moore.
- Attending an awards event and Property Council Industry Business Lunch.
The participating schools were Cheltenham Girls High, Northern Beaches Secondary College Mackellar Girls, Riverside Girls High, Asquith Girls High, Burwood Girls High, Randwick Girls High, Bankstown Girls High, Liverpool Girls High, Auburn Girls High, Strathfield Girls High, Dapto High, Hunter River High and St Pius X High.
We hope that through this initiative, we can foster a pipeline of talent into the industry. View the Illawarra news clips about the Girls in Property program here and here.
