Girls in Property opens up a world of future jobs

Last week saw up to 100 WA high school students participate in the Property Council’s annual Girls in Property showcase.

The Year 9 students from Shenton College and John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School spten Tuesday, finding out about WA’s property industry, why it is so important for social and economic development and why women are so important to the future of the industry.

The students started the day at Curtin University, where they heard from senior property identities. These included Property Council WA Vice President Richard Kilbane and Diversity Committee Chair Ray Haeren, before hearing the success stories of a number of women who have forged great careers in the property industry. Speakers included Prue Cunningham, Teresa McGuane, Sally Ockenden, Susan Dovey, Deborah Binet and Karen Dill-Macky.

Following their time at Curtin, the girls then embarked on a number of site tours to the Construction Futures Centre, as well as the recently completed Forest Chase redevelopment in Perth’s city centre. At these locations, the girls got an insight into some of the different jobs available to them in Australia’s biggest industry.

A big thank you and congratulations to all the speakers and tour leaders who agreed to participate in one of the biggest days of the Property Council’s calendar.

Our thanks also extends to the sponsors of the Girls in Property program for their generous support that helps keep vital programs like this running year on year. This year, sponsors included AMP Capital, Built, CBRE, Cameron Chisholm Nicol, Collier Homes, CTF, Curtin University, DevelopmentWA, Ernst & Young, ISPT, JLL, Knight Frank, Mirvac, NS Group, Savills, Squire Patton Boggs, Stockland, Urbis and Vicinity Centres.
