Get ready for the 2018 Retirement Census
The data collection for the 2018 PwC/Property Council Retirement Census will begin in June. Read on to find out the benefits of participating and how to prepare for our annual retirement village survey.
About the Retirement Census
The PwC/Property Council Retirement Census is the most comprehensive aggregated data source about retirement villages in Australia. The Census profiles the physical characteristics of villages, ownership details, business attributes (e.g. tenure, financial structure, operating overheads), and resident profiles (e.g. demographics, length of stay).
Retirement Census data is collected by village operators completing a MS Excel spreadsheet for their portfolio of villages.
Village operators can help make this year’s Retirement Census a success by participating in the data collection. In return for your participation, your organisation will receive a data-rich analysis report from PwC. It is not possible to purchase a ‘contributor report’, and this report is the most comprehensive product created from the data collected.
Key dates
Data collection opens (participation emails sent to village operators) – late June 2018
Data collection ends (completed spreadsheets due back) – 31 July 2018
Snapshot report released – 29 November 2018
Presentation of results – 29 November 2018 (at National Retirement Living Summit)
Reports sent to data contributors – December 2018 (estimated)
How to prepare
If you wish to participate, plan to put aside time in June and July to complete the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet can take some time to complete if you did not participate in the 2017 Retirement Census, don’t have information to hand, or have a medium to large sized portfolio.
On the day the data collection starts:
- If your organisation is a member of the Property Council, an email will be sent to your Property Council Member Rep outlining how to participate.
- If your organisation is a member of the Retirement Living Council (RLC), an email will be sent to the person nominated by your RLC board member outlining how to participate.
If your organisation is not a member, you are more than welcome to participate in the Retirement Census. Please enter your contact details here and we’ll send you an email when the data collection starts, outlining how to participate.
Once you participate in the Retirement Census, it is much easier and quicker to participate in subsequent years.
Changes in 2018
We’ve made some changes to the 2018 Retirement Census to make it more relevant to the retirement living sector, and to make completing the spreadsheet easier.
Key changes include:
- The data submitted will cover the financial year rather than the calendar year.
- The number of mandatory data fields has been reduced to focus on areas which village operators have told us are important to them.
