Future Directions Spotlight: Stewart Reid

Stewart Reid is Relationship Executive at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. 

What are some of your favorite aspects of your current position? During periods of economic uncertainty and change comes opportunities for operators that are able to innovate. I’m motivated to help my customers realise these opportunities by working closely with them to understanding their business and using the incredible technology that’s unique to Commonwealth Bank.

What made you want to be involved in Future Directions? I wanted to contribute back to the business community in a socially constructive way. The Future Directions Committee is a fantastic vehicle to achieve this.

If you could travel back in time, what advice / tips would you give yourself, 10 years ago? I would say to just give it go – what’s the worst that can happen?

 What is your ultimate career goal? To replace our business centre Executive Manager, Marlon Saunders. In all seriousness, I would one day like to become a business owner. I come from a family that owned a small business and I’ve seen the benefits that it can provide.

From your personal experience, what has been the greatest challenge as a Young Professional in the work place? Reflecting back, I think it’s important to develop a professional identity and maturity early on. If you take others seriously, they’ll reciprocate, which leads to further opportunities and career progression.
