Frasers Property Australia secures Australia’s highest Green Star rating

A supersite, developed and managed by Frasers Property Australia has achieved the highest Green Star rating for an industrial building. So, what does world leadership sustainable design look like in the industrial space?

Based in Victoria’s Truganina, the supersite, owned by Frasers Logistics and Industrial Trust, has been awarded a 6 Star Green Star As Built v1.1 rating from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

The 74,546 building was purpose-built for Ceva Logistics.

A 6 Star rating represents world leadership in sustainable design and construction.

According to Frasers Property’s general manager Anthony Maugeri, the sustainable design features translate into significant operational cost savings for the customer, and a smaller carbon footprint.

Ceva Logistics has purchased eight properties with Frasers Property over the last five years, and two new purpose-built premises in Melbourne will also target 6 Star Green Star ratings.

“We will continue to find ways to create greater efficiencies in our purpose-built warehouses,” Maugeri adds.

The GBCA’s chief executive officer Romilly Madew says several initiatives, including the full lifecycle assessment and the education of contractors on site, are “leading edge” and “will drive market transformation throughout the industrial sector”.

A 300kW solar system has already cut energy consumption by 25 per cent since the doors first opened at the facility.

Highly-efficient LED lighting and daylight controls have saved an estimated 22 per cent in operational energy costs.

And a whole lifecycle assessment of the embodied carbon informed changes to the design, which enabled Frasers Property to reduce the building’s embodied carbon by 71 per cent.

Frasers Property has developed and owns more than 1.2 million sqm of office and industrial buildings that are certified or registered under the GBCA’s Green Star rating system.
