The future of international investment in Queensland is increasingly dominating headlines, and at the first Property Council Tourism event for 2015 attendees had the opportunity to hear from the key players driving, facilitating and partnering on international investment in tourism projects.

Our expert speakers included Barry Robinson, President and Managing Director of Wyndham Hotel Group South East Asia and Pacific Rim – Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific and Josef Seidler, Property Development Director – Echo Entertainment Group who began by outlining their organisations’ business models and their landmark projects.

The projects discussed included Echo Entertainment Group’s proposal for the integrated resort at Queens Wharf, and the refurbishment of Jupiters Hotel and Casino as well as Wyndham’s TRYP Hotel in Brisbane and Ramada Resort at Port Douglas.

Both speakers also engaged in a panel discussion, focused on their perception of the appetite for international investment in Queensland, the regulatory and market impediments to investment, and the benefits of finding the right international joint venture partner(s) to capitalise and build on existing skill sets.

Additionally, the panel session addressed harnessing the ‘Queensland brand’, in tandem with their organisations’ individual appeal when marketing tourism projects and each speaker’s ‘infrastructure wish list’ – the projects they believe Queensland needs to maximize its appeal to international investors.
