First Zara store for PerthRetailer Zara has announced it will open its first store in Perth. The new store, in AMP Capital’s Garden City Shopping Centre, will be the 10th Australian store for the Spanish retail giant.Zara is the latest in a line of large international retailers to decide to set up shop in the WA capital. Apple recently opened its largest Perth store in Garden City, and UK brand Topshop is planning to open a store in the city.Zara has had a presence in Australia since opening its first stores in Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall and Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall three years ago.According to AMP Capital, Garden City, in the Perth suburb of Booragoon, has been the top-ranked mall for speciality sales per sqm in WA for more than a decade.AMP Capital has a $7 million redevelopment and expansion plan for the centre currently in the pipeline. The WA Government recently removed caps on shopping centre expansion and gave AMP Capital approval for a structure plan to extend the mall to 120,000 sqm, making it the largest shopping centre development to be approved in the state.The expansion forms part of a wider development of the area surrounding the shopping centre. If approved, construction will begin in 2016.
