First WestConnex construction contractThe first WestConnex construction contract has been awarded for the Stage 1 widening of the M4 Motorway to four lanes in each direction between Parramatta and Homebush.A Rizzani De Eccher Leighton joint venture was selected to design and construct the widening, subject to planning approval. The project will be funded by the Australian and NSW governments with construction due to commence in early 2015 and be completed in early 2017.Widening of the M4 Motorway is expected to cut travel times by up to 74 percent and create 2,000 jobs during construction.Stage 3 of WestConnex will run via a tunnel from Haberfield to St Peters with connections at the Rozelle rail yards to Victoria Road and ANZAC Bridge. There will also be connections to WestConnex to the Western Harbour Tunnel in the future and at Parramatta Road around Camperdown. To read the media release click here.
