Event recap – Olympics Lunch 

The Property Council and the Australian Olympic Commission celebrated the momentous decision that Brisbane will host the 2032 Olympic Games at lunch yesterday.

Over 800 people attended the lunch to celebrate the Olympic movement and look at the future opportunities that an Olympics could bring to Brisbane.  Pat Welsh – Sports Editor at the 7 network and Natalie Cook OAM OLY presided over the event and ensured that the room was buzzing with the excitement for the Tokyo Games and the announcement that Brisbane would join the prestigious list of Olympic cities.

Queensland Premier the Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk, Brisbane Lord Mayor Cr Adrian Schrinner and Vice President of the Australian Olympic Committee John Coates beamed in live from Tokyo to discuss the next steps of Brisbane’s Olympic journey.

Following the live cross from Tokyo, the Prime Minister’s Personal Representative for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games Ted O’Brien MP and Cr Karen Williams on behalf of the Council of Mayors discussed Brisbane’s successful bid and how it had highlighted how all three levels of government would work together to achieve a positive legacy for the SEQ region.

Then Olympian and Past Queensland President of the Property Council, Mark Stockwell, discussed what it meant to be an Olympian and how the Games were the next step in Brisbane’s evolution and growth.

After this, Nat Cook and Pat Welsh sat down with Olympic royalty Dawn Fraser, who told tales from her time competing in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the infamous flag moment and how excited she is to see new talent aspiring to compete at the 2032 Brisbane Games.
