The Property Council welcomed industry members to a range of events over the last fortnight.

0 Women in Property Wrap Event

This year’s 0 Women in Property program participants and sponsors officially wrapped up on Wednesday 17 November 2021.

An incredible lineup of panellists that included Libby Marshall, CEO & Founder – Steam Capital, Kathy Mac Dermott, former COO – Property Council of Australia, Garth Haslam, Regional Manager Facilities QLD – Scentre Group and moderated by Jess Caire, Deputy Executive Director – Property Council of Australia.

Participants heard insights and gained valuable takeaways on how to lean into the uncomfortable, playing to your strengths and silencing the inner critic. The panel also challenged the notion of personal branding, flipping the conversation to considering your value proposition.

Gold Coast Lunch: Lights, Camera, Action!

It was lights, camera, action on the Gold Coast to discuss how it is rapidly becoming Australia’s film industry capital and how the property industry can capitalise on these opportunities.

The standout reputation Queensland has built within the movie industry across the globe attracts international film studios, visiting movie stars, and an abundance of tourism attractions to the Gold Coast.

Lynne Benzie, President – Village Roadshow Studios shared key insights as to the criteria that productions require from the property sector to be able to deliver movie and tv content.

Our expert panel, Angie Bell MP, Federal Member for Moncrieff, Lynne Benzie, President – Village Roadshow Studios, Kylie Munnich, CEO – Screen Queensland and Tania Moore, Senior Director – CBRE superbly moderated by Matthew Schneider, Director – Urbis discussed the key role this sector plays in the economy.

The industry continues to go from strength to strength, with over 40 productions alone in QLD in the last year – injecting a whopping five hundred million dollars into the state and creating on average 8000 jobs a year nationally.

Launch Event: Brisbane City Council’s Centre Master Plan

Over 1 industry professionals gathered at the Hilton Hotel on Tuesday 23 November over breakfast to hear from Deputy Mayor Cr Krista Adams, Civic Cabinet Chair for Economic Development and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games launch Brisbane City Council’s Master Plan.

As the epicentre of economic activity, Brisbane’s city centre is the first and last impression many visitors will have of our city. The Brisbane City Centre Master Plan Stage 1 aims to rekindle activity in Brisbane’s CBD following the impact of COVID-19.

Tim Weston, CEO – Student One, Simon Crooks, Project Director – Destination Brisbane Consortium and Katrina Warren, Regional Manager Qld – Vicinity Centres joined a panel discussion to talk about their own interests in the city centre, measures to revitalise it, and the Property Council’s upcoming Summer in the City campaign.

Retirement Revolution Event

The Property Council hosted the Retirement Revolution: Tech trends in Retirement Living networking event on Wednesday 24 November at the W Hotel.

Keynote speaker Pauline Barton – Stockland broke down the rapidly changing world of technology across Stockland’s retirement village portfolio.

Following this, Pauline was joined for a panel discussion by Graham Russell – HSC Technology Group and Johny Agotnes – Bolton Clarke. Emma Lilley – Imagine Projects moderated the discussion.

The event also provided an opportunity to crown the winners of the National Retirement Living Awards.

The Programmed Facility Management Village Manager of the Year Award went to Marcia Teevan – Bolton Clarke.

The Imagine Projects Village Salesperson of the Year Award was taken out by Sharon Manson – Ingenia Communities.
