Environmental Reform

 In 2014 the Territory Government engaged Dr Allan Hawke AC to conduct a review of the Northern Territory’s Environmental Assessment and Approval Processes (the Hawke II Review).

Dr Hawke delivered his review in May 2015 with Government providing a response in November 2015. The review offers three options to reform the environmental assessment and approval framework and makes 22 other recommendations for improvement.7
Government has agreed to adopt Dr Hawke’s recommended option for structural reform (Option 3) and broadly supports each of his 22 reform recommendations. Option 3 is designed to build and strengthen the Territory’s current system.
