Environmental Offsets General Guide

Last week, the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection released the Queensland Environmental Offsets Policy General Guide.

The Guide aims to assist stakeholders in the interpretation and implementation of the Queensland Environmental Offsets Framework, which was released last year.

With a number of local governments seeking to introduce environmental offsets through their planning schemes, the Guide will assist in ensuring any offsets being sought are in accordance with the intention of the framework.

Along with providing guidance to local governments, the Guide also provides information for proponents on when offsets may be required, and how that offset is required to be calculated and delivered.

The General Guide accompanies a number of statutory and non-statutory materials released by the Government to support the implementation of the offsets framework.
