Encouraging economic growth in the regions

The Hunter Development Corporation has worked successfully to unlock government land, which has been used to revive and rejuvenate the Newcastle foreshore.

The results speak for themselves in Newcastle, and the Property Council has made the case for this mechanism to also service the needs of the Illawarra to support its economic transformation.

An advisory committee has been formed to consider the operation of development corporations in New South Wales. The committee will examine current operations and provide advice on potential improvements for regional development corporations.

It will be chaired by Angus Dawson, the former General Manager of the Honeysuckle Development Corporation which preceded the Hunter Development Corporation, and a former member of the Property Council’s Illawarra Chapter Committee.

It will examine the role of development corporations and consider their potential role in areas such as the Illawarra and the Western Sydney Priority Growth Area. The Property Council will make the case for these areas to benefit from the development corporation structure.
