Election Digest: December 9, 2016
With less than 100 days now to when West Australians will choose the next Government, we have started to see the campaign heat up.
Western Power made headlines last week, as the Government announced plans to sell a 51% share in the State asset. The Property Council supports the sale as a portion of the revenue raised will go towards much needed infrastructure.
In recent weeks, the Property Council has been rolling out a heightened media release campaign which to date has gained coverage on the following measures:
·Stamp Duty concession for off-the-plan apartment purchases
·Tackling housing affordability
·The industry’s plan for jobs
·How a Senior’s downsizing concession can benefit us all
The Property Council received media coverage on our advocacy agenda items to provide a stamp duty concession for eligible seniors looking to downsize, promoting housing choice for all West Australian by boosting housing affordability and the industry’s plan to create jobs by boosting the construction and housing markets.
Coupled with our ongoing media campaign, our executive team has been hard at work meeting with key politicians and government agencies to outline our plan to keep WA growing. Last week, we met with Mark McGowan, Leader of the Opposition to talk about our priorities.
The conversation with Mark covered issues including strata reform particularly community title, our stamp duty reforms around off-the-plan purchases and a concession for seniors trying to downsize and full private certification for building permit applications.
Mark also reaffirmed Labor’s commitment to the current DAP model, however, signalled the need for greater community involvement in the process.
Next on the agenda for the team is a meeting with the Planning Minister, Donna Faragher, Michael Mischin, Commerce Minister and Treasurer Michael Nahan.
