Elder abuse event in Sydney
How well equipped are you and your organisation to identify elder abuse? Do you know what to do if you suspect abuse, given its complexity and challenges? Are you clear about whose responsibility it is to investigate and address abuse?
An upcoming Australian Association of Gerontology seminar in Sydney will address these questions and more and will be essential for professionals in the retirement living industry and other ageing-related sectors.
Guest speakers include Associate Professor Briony Dow (National Ageing Research Institute), Kerry Marshall (NSW Elder Abuse Hotline and Resource Unit), Brendan Moore (Alzheimer’s Australia NSW) and Paul Sadler (Presbyterian Aged Care NSW & ACT)
Elder abuse is at last getting more of the attention it deserves, with several inquiries underway or recently completed at state and federal government levels.
As the June 2016 report of the NSW parliamentary inquiry said, the time has come to prioritise elder abuse as a policy issue, to create a much stronger and comprehensive approach to tackling it and to improve service providers’ identification of and response to abuse.
The event takes place on Tuesday 27 September. Visit the AAG website for more information.
