Draft Design report released for Brisbane Metro
Brisbane City Council has released the Brisbane Metro Design Report for public consultation.
The highly anticipated project was first announced in early 2016 and is expected to reduce traffic, cut congestion times and improve services to suburbs.
Brisbane Metro will comprise of a 21-kilometre metro network that services 18 stations.
Two new high-frequency, high capacity network lines will be introduced: Eight Mile Plains Busway Station to Roma Street Station; and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital to University of Queensland Lakes busway station.
The project will allow a fleet of 60 metro vehicles, each holding a capacity of 120 people and is expected to run every 3 minutes during peak travel times.
The project is essential for supporting infrastructure and development, as population growth increases across the region.
In March 2018 the Brisbane Metro was confirmed as a ‘High Priority Project’ on the nation’s infrastructure Priority List.
Brisbane City Council is asking residents and stakeholders to provide their feedback, before Friday 25 May 2018.
Prior consultation on the project saw the Property Council express the need for a wider traffic management plan and the importance of maintaining vehicle access to buildings along the proposed route.
The Property Council stressed the importance of clear communication with land holders about resumptions and construction.
