Draft Bushfire Risk Management RegulationsThe Minister for Planning has released the draft Planning and Development (Bushfire Risk Management) Regulations 2014 for public consultation for a period of sixty days, closing 31 October 2014.The aim of the regulations is to apply consistent requirements to developments in order to reduce the risk of bushfire damage to habitable buildings in bushfire prone areas. The new regulations will ensure that a bushfire risk assessment is undertaken before a new habitable building is constructed in a bushfire prone area and will require development approval for habitable buildings on sites of extreme bushfire risk to ensure appropriate management measures are undertaken. You can find a copy of the proposed regulations here.If you would like to make a comment on these regulations, please contact Rebecca Douthwaite at the Property Council on 9426 1203 or at [email protected].
