Diversity Event Recap

Last week the Property Council’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee held its first breakfast event for 2021, with the topic of ‘Finding the balance in a hybrid world of work’ discussed. Attendees were able to hear direct insights from EY’s Work Reimagined report, followed by a panel discussion with industry experts. The event was hosted and moderated by Diversity and Inclusion Committee Chair Annabelle Aland- Partner, Allens.

According to keynote speaker, Rohan Barrett- Partner, People Advisory Services, EY, research has shown that while people have embraced remote working, there is a clear demand for employees to feel connected with their leaders and colleagues. Rohan noted that the pandemic has changed how employees perceive the office and there needs to be a balance that met the needs of the organisation and its workers.

Andrew Hay – Director, Auxilium Property and Queensland President of the Property Council of Australia, said that while it was important to offer flexibility, people returning to the office would be key in revitalising our city centres. Andrew also added that landlords needed to design and offer more ‘flex’ space to allow tenants to shrink and grow as capacity fluctuates.

Lisa Nixon – Managing Director, BBS Communications, said that while many organisations were able to transition quickly to remote working in a short space of time, there is a clear need to ensure support for employees who are in the early stages of their careers. Lisa highlighted the need to support the mental health of employees and keep the culture of workplaces going, which often impacts positively on client delivery.

We thank our event sponsor Multiplex and host Allens, along with our keynote speaker, panellists and moderator, for making this breakfast possible.
