Developer Licensing Review Update

Last year the Queensland Government announced it would undertake a review to examine the role of developers in the Queensland building and construction industry. The members of the Developer Review Panel and Terms of reference for the review can be found here. The Property Council has consistently opposed any measures that will increase the cost of development, especially as housing supply and affordability are at crisis point. If a licensing scheme is recommended by the Panel, Queensland will be the first state to implement a licensing regime, potentially acting as a deterrent to investment.

The Property Council has been invited to participate in an Industry Reference Group, set up to provide advice and engage with the Panel in relation to the Review’s scope. To assist the Property Council’s in understanding how potential recommendations may impact the industry, we invite members to contact Julia Dixon if they wish to take part in our internal working group.

The Property Council will host a seminar- Developer Licensing – what you need to know – on Thursday 10 February 2022, where the Review’s scope and potential recommendations will be discussed by both government and industry speakers.
