Destination Joondalup the gateway to Perth’s northern suburbs

The City of Joondalup has released a new five-year blueprint to attract business, development, residents and visitors to the centre of activity in Perth’s northern suburbs.

Destination Joondalup reflects on where Joondalup and its surrounds are currently at and sets ambitious targets to grow the region by bringing visitors in from around Perth, interstate and internationally. These include an aim to increase annual tourism visitors by 200,000 to a total of 1.5 million by 2026, create around 1,000 new jobs and nearly $200 million in economic gains through goods, services and productivity increases.

It recognises the City of Joondalup’s strengths, including its coastal and parkland natural assets, its tourist attractions centred around Hillarys Boat Harbour and its retail offering, including Lakeside Joondalup, Westfield Whitfords City, Currambine Central and Warwick Grove. Combined, these elements create a community and destination that the City of Joondalup believes can leverage increased tourism and business activity.

It also outlines the key areas the City of Joondalup aims to leverage to work collaboratively with industry and government to unleash existing industries in the Joondalup area, elevate Joondalup’s brand and enhance visitor experiences. It aims to do this by focusing on improving amenity across the region, incentivise investment, economic development and build on Joondalup’s existing footprint across health, education and commercial activity.

Within Destination Joondalup is a focus on bringing more people into the area, primarily through tourism, but also through its strong and growing population, currently at a base of 161,000 residents.
