#designperth showcases benefits of infill
The Property Council’s newly launched report, #designperth, gives developers a new tool in helping overcome community and Government fears about infill development.
#designperth, a joint study with the Australian Greens, CODA Architecture and Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP), showcases how well designed infill development and urban regeneration can create vibrant, connected and liveable precincts without harming the local community.
For the first time in Perth, its goes further by quantifying the benefits – including increased local employment, infrastructure savings and increased public transport usage, of infill development and urban regeneration.
Key findings of the report found that:
- For every 1000 lots developed in infill sites, a saving up to $94.5 million could be achieved
- Achieving Perth’s 47% infill target by 205, the potential savings will be $13billion
- Precinct wide case study showed that local employment rose by 352% and public open space increased by 187%
“The Property industry is committed to growing strong communities which can be achieved through beautifully designed buildings and precincts. Our bold vision showcases how underutilised space in metropolitan Perth, and along key transport corridors, can be transformed through innovative and well-designed infill development. Not only will this create vibrant precincts, but it will save money.” Property Council WA Executive Director Lino Iacomella said.
