Darwin Inner Suburbs Area Plan
The Darwin Inner Suburbs Area Plan is the culmination of six months of community consultations and extensive infrastructure studies focused on ensuring future land use keeps pace with the changing needs of a growing community.
The Northern Territory Planning Commission has developed an Area Plan for Darwin’s Inner Suburbs of Stuart Park, The Gardens, Parap, Fannie Bay, Bayview, The Narrows and part of Ludmilla.
The Area Plan is the result of an extensive community consultation process, as well as detailed infrastructure and transport studies, and will guide development of the area for years to come.
The Planning Commission developed the Area Plan over three stages:
Stage One launched in June 2015 with the release of a discussion paper and a first round of up front community consultation which extended over six weeks.
Stage Two commenced in November 2015 when the Planning Commission released the Draft Darwin Inner Suburbs Area Plan and corresponding Needs Assessment documentation for a further five week period of consultation.
Stage Three the final stage of the project, commenced in February 2016. The Planning Commission recommended the Area Plan and associated documents to the Minister for Lands and Planning for exhibition as a proposed amendment to the Northern Territory Planning Scheme.
