Darwin a Tropical Living 4 o’clock ForumThe Property Council of Australia along with our Environmentally Sustainable Committee (ESD) hosted a 4 o clock forum on the 22 September. The event was set at Wharf One Wine and Food at the Waterfront which proved to be the perfect location for the topic at hand. Our three speakers engaged the 100 + attendees with a presentation and a panel discussion at the conclusion of the event.Dr Andrew Wilson, Chief Economist from the Domain Group led the discussion on how the Darwin Property market was currently placed from an economic point of view nationally and where the market was headed.Prof. Lawrence Neild, Northern Territory Government Architect spoke about Darwin and what was required to make Darwin a Tropical City from a design and livability perspective. Of particular importance was the need to cool the city down both visually and by providing shade.Stephen Moore, Director at Roberts Day spoke about the urban consequences of the need for appropriate design in Darwin and that if carried out properly will help to address the economic opportunities of the city. What we believe came out of the discussions was the need to properly address the Urban Design of the city if we are to move forward and gain the maximum economic benefit out of the Darwin city. The idea of Darwin as a Tropical City not only helps to brand the city but from a practical point of view through landscaping will help to allow the city to be a more pleasurable and comfortable city to live, work and play.
