Cutting red tape for subdivision approvals
The Victorian Planning Authority has announced that it will provide grant funding to Melbourne’s growth area councils to speed up processing of subdivision applications.
$447,000 will be awarded to the seven councils to build their planning capacity and establish measures to reduce delays.
The Property Council has welcomed this investment, considering the exponential population growth in these areas. We concur with the State Government that speeding up processing during a time of unprecedented demand will bring more land to market faster.
This will increase overall supply and help Melbourne maintain its housing affordability edge, especially in the greenfield markets.
Whilst the Government’s announcement is a step in the right direction, Property Council believes that further work will be required to assess the program’s effectiveness and success going forward.
