Cultural Heritage Duty of Care Guidelines review
The Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships has released an issues paper as part of a staged consultation aimed at developing revised Cultural Heritage Duty of Care Guidelines.
The guidelines are developed to assist land users to undertake reasonable measures for meeting the cultural heritage duty of care. The issues paper is seeking to improve the guidelines through addressing the following areas of contention:
- The categorisation of activities,
- The assessment of risk of harm to cultural heritage associated with any activity,
- Dispute resolution processes where parties are unable to reach agreement
Workshops will be held in Brisbane and Cairns during May 2017. Submissions on the issues paper are due by 1 June 2017.
