Council to steer Oak Flats Town Centre visionShellharbour City Council will undergo a visioning project for the Oak Flats township, located south of Wollongong.Councillor Peter Moran said the council will lead a planning process for the small town centre over the next six to eight months, beginning with the formation of a committee this week to guide the process.A long time resident of Oak Flats, Cr Moran said the committee would work with consultants that council are yet to engage to ask the community what they want for Oak Flats town centre and what council can do to facilitate investment. He said this will include floor space ratios, zonings and heights whilst taking into consideration the need to recognise Oak Flats is one of the city’s original villages.”I think one of the great things about Oak Flats is that you get to know the people working in the shops and other shoppers – we need to protect that community atmosphere,” Councillor Moran said. When conceived, the vision and plan will go on public exhibition for comment before being finalised.
