Council calls for EOIs in Nowra CBD sitesShoalhaven City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from the private sector to redevelop prime Nowra CBD Council land into a vibrant mixed-use centre in the Nowra CBD, possibly in ‘partnership’ with Council. The opportunity is based on Council’s plans to revitalise Nowra CBD into a distinctive main street experience which complements the adjacent Stockland Nowra Centre, also planned for expansion. These complementary initiatives by Council and Stockland will create significant economic activity and importantly, new job opportunities for the region with Council seeing its role as using its assets to facilitate this revitalisation process. In releasing its Nowra CBD landholdings within the Egans Lane Precinct, Council is encouraging suitably experienced and resourced private sector parties to respond through the EOI to this key opportunity. The landholdings total some 20,000sqm, are centrally positioned in the CBD and adjacent to the existing high street retail and business outlets.Mayor, Joanna Gash, described the Egans Lane revitalisation project as a key city improvement initiative.”We envisage the future development will reflect Shoalhaven residents’ aspirations for more retail and business opportunities, an enviable town centre, and a connected community,” Councillor Gash said. “The revitalisation of a city’s CBD is an increasingly common trend across many Councils, with the town centre projects facilitated through Lane Cove, Woollahra and North Sydney Councils serving as recent successful examples.”Shoalhaven City Council is following this approach by providing an exciting opportunity for the private sector to develop some or all of this prime land designated within the Nowra CBD Precinct.”Details of the Expression of Interest can be found on Council’s website.
