Consumer Price Index remains unchangedThe latest ABS CPI June quarter survey released today shows that Darwin has recorded no change.Property Council NT Director Ruth Palmer said that the flat movement in Darwin is partially attributed to a subdued increase in fuel compared to other cities. “This survey shows that medical and hospital services are the NT’s main positive contributors, offset by a fall in travel and accommodation domestically.”Medical and hospital services recorded a +4.3% rise while the automotive fuel rose to +2.3%.”It is pleasing that the NT Government has implemented strategies to reduce the impost of fuel prices on Territorians while their concentrated efforts on releasing land have translated into the positive CPI results in recent times.”The latest results should provide encouragement for people who live and work here and want to remain in the Territory. This will see a reverse in the small interstate migration loss out of Darwin over the last couple of years. “While this is positive news for the Territory moving forward, we cannot be vigilant, the Sensis Business Index March 2015 showed that confidence levels of Small and Medium Enterprises in the Territory for the next twelve months decreased by 11 percentage points to +35%.The Government needs to continue to provide certainty and communication with the community to boost up the confidence of Territorians.”Media contact: Ruth Palmer | M 04 428 314 | E [email protected]
