Construction on Campus

Construction is underway across Perth’s major universities that will change the way students learn and will further enhance the university experience and bring communities together.

Perth university campuses are entering a new expansion phase with student accommodation, mixed use activity centres and academic buildings.

At a recent property industry lunch hosted by the Property Council, delegates previewed two development and construction plans currently pipelined and underway for our Universities.

Kicking off the lunch we heard from Robert Webster, Executive Director of Corporate Services from the University of Western Australia. Robert covered the development of the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre. With industry collaboration, it will be an intensive research space for multiple research agencies.

Robert also discussed the construction of Forrest Hall which is has a goal of building scale and excellence. This development will accommodate an academic community of both local and international students. The university’s eZone is currently in pre-construction, which will include mixed teaching and research spaces – with a focus on engineering activity.

Tim Urquhart, Director of Properties, Facilities & Developments, discussed the progress of the Greater Curtin Master Plan – specifically the procurement of Greater Curtin Stage One. Greater Curtin Stage One will transform the Bentley campus into a modern, connected a vibrant community – “A Place for People”, Mr. Urquhart said.

Greater Curtin Stage One is a $0million development that includes extensive mixed-use developments to be used for students and short stay accommodation, academic and research facilities, curated retail, and a revitalised recreation precinct.

Andrew Borger, from Charter Hall and Gaye McMath Corporate Advisor joined the panel to discuss new and innovative university developments. Andrew Borger talked about the vertical university development for University of Western Sydney in Parramatta while Gaye stressed the importance of providing student housing in central locations, particularly for foreign students looking to study in WA.
