Consideration of planning bill deferred

  • July 02, 2015

Consideration of planning bill deferredOn Thursday 25 June, Queensland Parliament’s Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Committee (Committee) resolved to delay its consideration of the Planning and Development (Planning for Prosperity) Bill 2015, pending advice from the Committee of the Legislative Assembly. The Bill was introduced into the House by the Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Planning, Small Business, Employment and Trade, Tim Nicholls MP in June as a Private Member’s Bill and was referred to the Committee for consideration. A reporting date of 13 October was initially established. The Committee’s consultation process was set to take place at the same time the Government is undertaking its own consultation process on the Better planning for Queensland directions paper, which foreshadows the introduction of new planning legislation in October. This decision will facilitate a more efficient consultation process, and build on the existing bipartisan support for planning reform in Queensland. The Property Council will continue to work with all parties to ensure the end result is a planning system that provides greater simplicity and certainty for all users.Further updates will be provided on the Committee’s website.
