Congratulations to our Rising Generation Award finalists
After careful examination and a round of interviews with shortlisted candidates, our Rising Generation Award judges have narrowed the field down for this year’s prize to three.
Adam Fahey, Development Manager at Catholic Healthcare, came to retirement living and aged care in 2013 after extensive experience in the property and construction industry.
Adam’s main responsibilities are to successfully implement the organisation’s property development pipeline, including delivery of projects from acquisition phase through to completion, including Catholic Healthcare’s McQuoin Park redevelopment of 168 retirement living units, 122 residential aged care beds and associated community facilities.
Adam is proceeding to standardise designs to allow for fabricated bathrooms for future Catholic Healthcare projects, significantly reducing construction time.
“Being able to be part of the design and build process allows me to have an input to how we can make the resident’s life better by ensuring our services are safe and secure, which is one of the main reasons people make these life changing choices,” Adam says.
Emma Plasier is Principal Director at Shine Retirement, which she established in September 2015 after working in social housing and in business development for a village operator.
Emma’s vision for Shine Retirement was to provide a service to help seniors navigate the sometimes complex transition to retirement living by helping them understand the market and then guiding them in finding the “best-fit” retirement living option relative to their needs, wants and budget.
Emma’s concept has been enthusiastically embraced by clients and village operators alike, and now Shine Retirement provides additional services such as introductions to lawyers, real estate agents and financial planners, and even assisting in the coordination of removalists.
“My idea arose from the understanding that the retirement living industry is in a huge growth and transition phase and that there are many prospects to be achieved for my company in the exciting years ahead, as well as for others like me who recognise the opportunity and seize the initiative,” Emma says.
Marcel Batrac has been an employee of Oceangrove Seniors’ Living Village and its operator, Dee Why RSL, for almost 10 years, starting as a casual worker in a club bar while studying.
He quickly established a great rapport with the residents and visitors, being promoted to Customer Relations Manager in 2010 and to his current role as Project and Property Manager in 2013, where he is responsible for maintaining and expanding Oceangrove as well as delivering a $17 million refurbishment of the club.
The recently submitted Club development application had potential impacts on the village residents and through Marcel’s careful design analysis and stakeholder management, the fears and concerns of residents have been allayed and the trust has been maintained between village residents and management.
“Coming from a hospitality background makes me appreciate and understand good service and that is what I like about the retirement living sector,” says Marcel. “It allows me to progress in my career in project and property management but also requires delivering a great ongoing experience.”
Big congratulations go to our three Rising Generation Award finalists for 2016, and all the nominees for their efforts to make our industry more exciting and innovative. Thank you again to award sponsor Ingenia Communities for making the award possible this year.
