Concept plan ready for Meekatharra women’s refuge

Following the successful fundraising at the WA Property Council Women in Property Signature Lunch earlier this year, Mission Australia, together with Emerge Associates have progressed the development of a concept plan for the upgrade of the garden area for the Meekatharra Women’s Refuge.

“We are very excited to see the finalisation of this concept plan that will see a total transformation of the exterior of the refuge,” Jo Sadler, State Director from Mission Australia said.

“The concept takes into account the unique needs of the Meekatharra environment as well as the safety and security needs of women and children escaping family and domestic violence.

“We are so grateful for the support we received from Property Council members and Iris Residential for this project and look forward to keeping everyone informed as it progresses.” Ms Sadler said.

Peta-Maree Ashford, Director, Landscape Architect – Manager Landscape at Emerge Associates is leading the design project for Mission Australia and is working with her team to deliver a unique landscape design for their Meekatharra Women’s Refuge.

“Unlike public parks or even your own backyard where you design for people to come together, this outdoor area needed to be designed for people needing solitude and their own reflective space.”

“The Meekatharra Women’s Refuge is a project Emerge are really invested in and we will continue to make ourselves available to Mission Australia and pool any resources we have to see it through to its completion.”

“We recognise it as a really important and valuable resource for this region and an eye opener for our team who tend to be removed from this part of our society and the challenges they face. We are really grateful that Mission Australia approached us to help.” Ms Ashford said.

Construction is expected to commence in September and the Property Council will continue to update and inform our members on the progress of this exciting project.
