Collaborating for the Sunshine Coast

For the second year in a row, the Property Council has hosted representatives from the three levels of government, to discuss the key issues of concern on the Sunshine Coast.

The ‘Collaborating for the Sunshine Coast’ luncheon, provided the opportunity to hear from the Hon Mal Brough MP – Federal Member for Fisher, Fiona Simpson MP- Member for Maroochydore, and Chris Thompson – Deputy Mayor of the Sunshine Coast, about what each level government is doing to support the property industry.

The discussion was moderated by Richard O’Leary, Editor – My Weekly Preview, and covered a wide range of issues including the change of Prime Minister.

Infrastructure continues to be major discussion point, with the Hon Mal Brough MP, outlining to the audience his campaign to secure funding for the Bruce Highway to be upgraded to six lanes from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast.

A series of questions were posed about future economic opportunities for the Sunshine Coast, with Deputy Mayor Chris Thompson explaining that the extension of the airport runway, the development of the health hub, and the possibility of the private sector investing in an undersea broadband cable, were all key priorities for the Sunshine Coast Council.

The conversation shifted towards the future planning of the Sunshine Coast, with Fiona Simpson MP, explaining that better use needs to be made of existing infrastructure, and the review of the South East Queensland Regional Plan provides the opportunity to investigate this further.

The Property Council would like to thank the Hon Mal Brough MP, Fiona Simpson MP and Deputy Mayor Chris Thompson for taking the time to speak at the event.  A Special thanks must also go to our moderator Richard O’Leary and to the sponsor for the event Rider Levett Bucknall.
