Coastal management changes now in place

Two changes to coastal management in Queensland have recently taken effect.

A new Coastal Management District (CMD) has been declared by the Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP). The CMD came into effect from 19 December 2014.

The CMD is an amalgamation of three existing districts into one, reducing the total footprint and number of lots triggered for development assessment.

The new CMD map dated 25 November 2014 can be viewed using the interactive mapping system on the DSDIP website.

The GIS spatial data is available on the QSpatial website.

Secondly, a recent amendment to the Coastal Protection and Management Regulation 2003 will enable the State Government and councils to undertake a broader range of work in a CMD without the requirement for a development permit under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009.

The new code and supporting information can be viewed on the department’s website.
