CITY OF PERTH PLANNING SCHEME RENEWAL
The City of Perth has resolved to approve the preparation of a new Planning Scheme for the City of Perth, incorporating all areas currently subject to City of Perth Planning Scheme No. 2, as well as the new sections of the City of Perth currently governed by City of Subiaco Town Planning Scheme No. 4.
Last month’s move to approve the process for a new Planning Scheme to be drafted comes after an extensive 18-month review of the current Planning Scheme. The review found inconsistencies between the current Planning Scheme and the MRA’s approach to development in the City, as well as conflicting provisions around land use, zoning, structure and format, planning objectives and the State Government’s Model Planning Provisions.
The City of Perth’s timeframe for drafting and adopting a new Planning Scheme could take until September 2022. City of Perth is expected to shortly consult with industry stakeholders. Property Council WA will work closely with its members and the City of Perth to ensure the consultation and drafting of a new Planning Scheme is consistent with other planning initiatives, such as the City’s Draft Planning Strategy and State Government plans.
