Chat with a Chair

Kim Gregory – Commercial Office Committee Chair

What was your first role within the property industry and what roles have you had since?
After graduating I joined AMP Capital as a Property Manager in Melbourne.  I held various commercial and retail positions over the following 12 years, with a final role as an Asset Manager in Sydney.   I’ve continued to work in portfolio and funds management with Principal Global Investors, Multiplex Capital, Brookfield and Investa.

My current role at Investa as Fund Manager – Mandates, involves managing our domestic and off-shore private client investments ensuring their objectives and performance hurdles are achieved and investigation of new strategic opportunities.

What is the biggest issue facing the property industry in NSW currently?
I believe the on-going, timely delivery of well-planned infrastructure across the state, particularly transport, is critical to deliver economic and social benefits to all.

If you weren’t working in property, where could you see yourself working?
There are so many interesting areas to explore –  design, science, the arts, food and wine, music!   My transfer to the Property degree at RMIT following 2 years of a commerce/finance degree was a reasonably random but positive decision at the time. Linking finance with property broadened my understanding of the property market and I would encourage people looking to property as a career to add complementary skill sets.

What are the committee’s priorities for the next 12 months?

  • Review challenges and opportunities for new and existing office markets
  • Identification of emerging trends – current and future impacts
  • Connecting with the start-up and new economy markets
  • Explore further involvement with the Office Market Report and associated events

What do you think are the characteristics of a great committee member?
Involved, engaged and actively contributing to debate and outcomes, passionate about the development of the industry

Using only one word, how would you describe the Property Council of Australia?
Progressive

What does “success” mean to you in terms of your work as a Committee member?
Making positive contributions to debate on issues relevant to the industry and seeing Committee work manifest in the Property Council’s policy and advocacy outcomes.
